Radio Gropiusstadt
Young Voices, New Spaces

A project by Gangway e.V. and Berlin Mondiale

Young people shape Gropiusstadt every day. They use public spaces, meet up in the neighborhood, and experience the changes in their district firsthand. Yet their perspectives are often not heard enough in discussions about the future of Gropiusstadt.

Radio Gropiusstadt is a mobile media project in which young people develop and produce podcasts, radio shows, music, and social media content. Through this work, they tell their own stories, choose their own topics, and give voice to their perspectives on the neighborhood.

In collaboration with Gangway, creative media formats will be developed in the summer of 2026 right in the young people’s own neighborhoods. Using mobile podcast and music stations, the project will travel to various locations throughout Gropiusstadt—including the Gropius Passagen, the Kombibad, and public spaces. This will foster connections and create new spaces for dialogue, creativity, and participation.

The focus is on the question of the “right to the city”: Who shapes public spaces? Whose voices are heard? And how can young people make a difference themselves? Participants decide for themselves how they want to get involved—whether in front of or behind the microphone, in production, recording, hosting, or music production.

Radio Gropiusstadt views young people not merely as participants, but as experts on their neighborhood. Through collaborative media production, new perspectives on Gropiusstadt emerge, giving young voices greater visibility and creating concrete opportunities to actively shape the neighborhood.

Gangway e.V. is one of the largest providers of street social work in Berlin. Since 1990, Gangway’s street workers have been working directly in public spaces, supporting young people and adults in their daily lives. Instead of waiting for people to seek help, they go where people are—on streets, in squares, and in neighborhoods. They provide support with personal challenges, mediate in conflicts, and create access to education, employment, counseling, and social participation.

With its many years of experience in community and relationship-building work, Gangway brings valuable insights to Radio Gropiusstadt. Together, we create spaces where the stories, concerns, and experiences of local residents can be seen and heard. In this way, our collaboration helps amplify local voices and foster dialogue within the neighborhood.
