Starting point
In Neukölln-Nord, there is a need for ongoing, scene-oriented, and discrimination-sensitive safe spaces for young people: safe places where they can experiment artistically, perform, and give voice to their perspectives. There is also a lack of local performance venues that showcase and empower young, role-model talents in their own neighborhood.
Approach
Spot On! is a quarterly stage series under the artistic direction of Prince Ofori (MINCE e.V.) that provides young artists from Neukölln and the surrounding area with visibility and opportunities for exchange. Accompanying this, weekly open workshops and sessions for young people took place, offering space for encounters, artistic learning, and collaborative experimentation. A mentoring program was originally planned but could not be further developed initially due to interrupted funding.
Transformation
The collaboration between Heimathafen Neukölln and MINCE e.V. led to high demand and a significant expansion of the network of young emerging artists from the local area. Spot On! provided support for emerging artists under professional production conditions. Heimathafen sees long-term potential in integrating the format more deeply into its own operations—but is currently facing financial and spatial capacity constraints. The overwhelming demand—from fully booked workshops to waiting lists for the stage program—shows, however, that this collaboration is the right response to a great need for cultural offerings tailored to the interests of young people.
